Explain why there is no increase in the level of water when salt is dissolved in it.

Expert Answer
The molecules in a liquid state are loosely packed and have spaces between them.
So the salt molecules dissolve in the water and fit in these empty spaces.
Hence there is no increase in the volume of water.
