during the reaction of some metals with dilute HCl, following observation were made:
  1. silver metal does not show any change
  2. reaction of sodium metal is found to be highly explosive
  3. some bubbles of a gas are seen when lead is reacted with acid;   so, explain these observations giving suitable reasons.

Reactivity series of metals is as follows:
 
Metals react with dil. HCl to produce metal chloride and hydrogen gas.
Metal + Dil. HCl → Metal chloride + Hydrogen
1. Metals to the right hand side of hydrogen are least reactive and do not react with dil. HCl.
2. The metals to the left hand side of Mg are extreamely reactive and are explosive. They react violently with dilute HCl. Hence reaction of sodium metal is found to be highly explosive.
3. Zinc, iron and lead react slowly with dil. HCl. Evolution of hydrogen gas in the form of effervescence or bubbles of gas are seen when lead is reacted with acid.
