Water is denser than oil. The density of oil is 0.93 g/cm3 and the density of water is 1 g/cm3. Thus, oil floats on the water. The oil contains the molecules which are large in size and hence the molecules of oil cannot hold each other as tightly as that of water molecules. Hence, the oil is less dense than water.
