(a) Such plants are called weeds.
They compete for food, space and light. They take upnutrients and reduce the growth of the crop.
(b) (i) Use of pesticide (herbicide or fungicide).
(ii) Mechanical removal or proper seed bed removal.
(iii) Timely sowing of crops.
(iv) Intercropping and crop rotation.
