Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent (SEATS)

SEATS is conducted by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, every year under the insight of INSPIRE (Innovation in Science & Pursuit for Inspired Research). The programme motivates children to make a science project and asks them to demonstrate it. In return, students get Rs 5,000 for their projects.

Eligibility: Students from Class 6 to 10 can apply for this programme.

How to apply: The school head or principal will directly nominate the participants.

The Velammal Science Talent Search Exam

The main objective of the scholarship programme is to support children who have potential to study and give them cash rewards. The total prize offered by the programme is Rs 4 lakhs. All you need to do is answer the exam, in which your aptitude and problem-solving skills will be examined, and try to win a good chance among 30 prizes. The Velammal Educational Trust of Tamil Nadu will conduct the exam.

Eligibility: Students in Class 1 to 10 of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry

Preparation: Questions will be on the Mathematics and Science syllabus followed in school.

How to apply: The registration starts each year by September and closes in early October.

Nationwide Education and Scholarship Test (NEST)

NEST is a scholarship online test consisting of 200 questions and the time to attempt these is 120 minutes. The test comprises four sections consisting questions from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, General Knowledge and Logical Reasoning. NEST aims at helping students who are exceptionally gifted in their studies but are facing a financial crisis. The scholarship award is from Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 to students (only from the Science stream) who have scored an All India rank in NEST. The SU Foundation of India (SUFI), a self-financed non-government organisation, grants the scholarship.

Eligibility: Students who have passed their Class 10 Board exams and have taken up Science in their secondary education.

Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme for Students Belonging to the Minority Community

The Indian Government provides 20,000 scholarships every year for the minority communities of India, i.e. Christian, Sikh, Muslim, Buddhist and Parsi, at the pre-matric level. The main aim of this scholarship is to encourage the minority community to send their children to school without any financial burden.

Eligibility: The award will be available only if the students secure 50% in their previous examination. The scholarship will discontinue if a student fails to secure 50% in the annual examination. The scholarship, as the course fee, will be directly credited to the school’s bank account.

IOCL Academic Scholarships

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), one of the biggest oil corporations of India, distributes 2,000 IOCL scholarships every year to Class 10 students subject to the IOCL scholarship eligibility. This IOCL scholarship carries Rs 1,000 every month as financial assistance to Class 10 students.

Eligibility: To secure the IOCL scholarship, the minimum percentage required in the Class 10 Board exams is 65% for General category students and 60% for OBC, SC/ST and girls. Students with disability need to score 50%. The age limit to apply for this scholarship is 15 years. The family income of students from all sources should not be more than Rs 1,00,000.
