NEET, or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, is the gateway to a dream career of serving society as a medical professional. NTA, or the National Testing Agency, conducts the NEET exam. The organisation is responsible for handling each process in the exam thoroughly. Considering its functions, the NTA has begun the registration process for NEET. The process started on February 9, 2024, and is expected to last till March 9, 2024

NTA has also announced the exam date for NEET as May 5, 2024.

NEET 2024: Overview

The NEET exam for undergraduate courses, conducted annually in an offline format, presents a valuable opportunity for candidates who are either preparing for their Class 12 boards or have successfully cleared the examination. It's important to note that individuals who are private candidates or have obtained their Class 12 qualifications from an Open School are not eligible to apply for the NEET exam.

The test duration is 3 hours 20 minutes, and the paper includes questions from three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Each subject is divided into two parts: Section A has 35 questions, and Section B has 15. There are 200 MCQs to be answered within the time limit. The first ten sections in Section B are considered for scoring. The exam is conducted in 13 national languages.

NEET 2024: Registration Process


The NEET 2024 application form is to be filled out and submitted online. The candidates must register on the official website and fill in the required details. After successfully filling out and submitting, the candidates will receive the application number needed to complete the application. Now fill in further information and head to fee payment. The stepwise procedure is as follows: 

Step 1: Head to the official NEET website (neet.ntaonline.in).  

Step 2: Click on ‘New Candidate Register Here’ and read the information displayed in the next window. Tick mark the box and choose ‘Click here to proceed’. 

Step 3: Choose the appropriate identity verification option and enter the details. You will get the appropriate method based on their choice to proceed. 

Step 4: Once the registration is completed, note the application number and use it to log in. Fill in the information as required in the form. Cross-check the details thoroughly and head to the document upload section. 

Step 5: Ensure the documents to be uploaded are within the exact format as accepted by NTA. 

Step 6: Now head to pay the fees. You can choose among the different accepted payment methods. 

Step 7: Revise the details and go for the final submission of the form. Keep a copy of the application form with you for future reference.

Q 1. What is the NEET UG 2024 exam fee?

Ans. The exam fees for the general category are INR 1700, the OBC category is INR 1600 and SC/ST and PwD are INR 1000. 

Q 2. What are the eligibility criteria for NEET UG 2024?

Ans.
The eligibility criteria include the following from the candidates: 

  • Candidates must have completed 17 years of age while applying for the NEET exam 
  • They must hold Indian citizenship. Individuals who are Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) or foreign nationals are also eligible to apply. 
  • The candidates must have appeared, completed or passed the 10+2 board examination or its equivalent from a recognised board in the subjects of physics, chemistry, biology/biotechnology, and English. 
  • Candidates belonging to unreserved or general categories should have scored a minimum aggregate of 50% in PCB, the reserved category should have scored at least 40%, and PwD should have passed with at least 45% marks. 


Q 3. What is the total number of available and to-be-attempted questions?

Ans.
The NEET aspirants get a question paper of 200 multiple-choice questions, where 180 questions are to be answered. Each question carries four marks, and the total score will be out of 720. The exam also includes negative markings for wrong choices.
