JEE Main 24th January 2023 Shift 1 & 2 Question Paper Analysis

JEE Main exam, the first step to NITs, IIITs & Government-Funded Engineering Institutes, began on 24th January 2023. The session 1 exam will be conducted on January 25, 28, 29, 30, 31 and February 1. The paper will take place in two shifts: The first shift will be from 9 am to 12 pm (IST), and Shift 2 from 3 pm to 6 pm (IST).

The JEE Main 24th January 2023 Shift 1 and Shift 2 complete paper analysis based on students' and experts' feedback is shared below. The JEE Main 2023 exam question paper comprised 90 questions. Each question carried four marks. Every incorrect response would lead to a deduction of one mark. Memory-based question papers and accurate answers will soon be available for both shifts.

1st Shift, 24th January 2023: Major Highlights

The candidates who appeared for the JEE Main 24th January 2023 Shift 1 exam had the following feedback:

  • A majority of students asserted that the paper was of moderate difficulty.
  • It was feasible to complete the paper in the given time duration.
  • Students who had appeared for JEE's second attempt claimed that its difficulty level was easier compared to previous year.
  • The Chemistry section wasn't too difficult. It had fairly easy questions.
  • Physics had several formula-based questions.
  • The difficulty level of NAT questions was moderate but was time-consuming. Comparatively, MCQs were easier.

Key points

Vector 3D and Integration were seen more in the paper, while there was only a single question from probability.

Section B questions were directly formula based.

However, the solutions to questions were lengthy compared to Physics and Chemistry.

Organic Chemistry, including reactant identification, had more weightage.

NAT questions were formula based.

Other important topics were Biomolecules, Polymers and Block Chemistry.

Most questions were from electronics, thermodynamics, semiconductors, and kinematics.

Physics numerical questions had a moderate difficulty level.

String tension questions were prominent in the paper.

Overall: The overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate. The Maths section was comparatively lengthier, but the students could balance their time owing to an easier Physics and Chemistry section.

2nd shift, 24th January 2023: Major Highlights

The major highlights solely based on students’ reactions are as follows:

  • The students found the paper moderately difficult.
  • While Chemistry and Physics sections were simpler, Maths was, as usual, a bit tricky and time-consuming.

The Mathematics section was lengthy.

Some questions were difficult and required practice.

Chemistry questions are mostly from NCERT.

Several questions were posed from Chemistry and everyday life.

The Physics section was easy just like the morning shift.

Some of the topics that were given focus were: Optics and Semiconductors.

Overall:  The paper was moderately difficult. It was doable for a student who had comprehensively prepared the entire syllabus.
