CBSE Announces Exam Syllabus for Board Exams 2023- Two-Term System Discontinued

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the board exam syllabi for classes 9 to 12 for the academic year 2022-23 on the official website. Teachers and students can visit the website and download the syllabus for different classes by clicking here.

Students must note that the new syllabus for 2022-23 has not been divided into terms: I and II, hinting that the board has discontinued the two-term system. It appears that the board will revert to the single annual board exam pattern for classes 10 and 12.

CBSE has always been conducting annual board exams in the months of March and April. Last year, the board decided to conduct the exam in two parts, and they bifurcated the syllabus into two terms because of the prevailing pandemic conditions. The term I board examination was held in November-December last year, while the term II examinations just began last week, on April 26, 2022. Sanyam Bhardwaj, CBSE Examination Controller, recently stated that in 2021-22, the announcement of the two-term system was a "one-time measure", and whether the board shall extend the system to the academic session 2022-23 or not will be decided in due course of time. He also added that the school's feedback on the two-term system has not been very encouraging. The stakeholders and school authorities found it inconvenient to conduct the board exams twice a year.

Prior to the two-term system, the board had to follow an alternative internal assessment scheme in the academic year 2020-21 as the annual board exams were cancelled amidst the second wave of COVID-19.

Earlier this month, CBSE officials confirmed the board would revert to the annual exam system from the next academic year to avert any unprecedented condition caused by the pandemic. The recent release of the syllabus confirms the same. The syllabi for 2023 have been revised. It accommodates further cuts for the major subjects. Since the pandemic conditions are fluctuating still and there is again a surge of COVID cases, the board has decided to keep the number of chapters limited in the syllabus for this year.

It is, therefore, recommenced for the students to gear up and begin preparing for their annual exams because the conditions are not stable, and any new news might take over at any time. Students need to follow strategic study plans, utilise the best study materials, and brace up for the upcoming year.
