5 Do's and Don'ts for Exam Day Success

It is finally that time of the year when the syllabus of every subject is coming to an end, teachers are taking revision lessons and the date sheets for examinations are coming in. The exam season is here!

Examinations have always been a crucial part of a student’s life. It is the assessment of your year-long hard work. You try to do the best you can to score good marks in your examinations. From making notes to pulling all-nighters, students do a lot of things before their board exam paper or any other exams.

To help you get ready for your D-day, here are 5 do's and don’ts that would help you boost your confidence and give your best.

Do's

Here are 5 things you should definitely do for your exam success.

  1. Planning your revision approach ahead of time will enable you to plan and include everything that you may need to revise, such as revision notes, sample papers and previous years’ question papers.
  2. Arrive at the exam site on time. If you arrive early and give yourself time to relax, organise, and mentally prepare for the test.
  3. It may sound simple, but ensuring that you're carrying everything (pens, pencils and other stationary items) you require to write the exam will save you a lot of concerns. Prepare a list on the night before the exam and go over it just before leaving the house and also before going into the exam hall.
  4. It is not necessary to answer the exam questions in the sequence in which they are printed. Often, an easy question in the board question paper can be completed quickly, putting you ahead of schedule from the beginning. You will also have more time at the end to focus on the challenging questions.
  5. Time management is important in an examination setting. It will really be helpful to take a few minutes to look over the questions and make a plan for how you're going to spend the time you have rather than jumping into answering the questions.

Don’ts

Here are certain things you should avoid doing for exam day success.

  1. Do not attempt an all-nighter. Sleep deprivation can decrease problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, both of which are typically required for analytical exams.
  2. While waiting for the exam outside the venue, avoid last-minute discussions, which may create confusion and anxiety.
  3. Don't forget to plan out time for every question throughout the exam to prevent losing track of time. It's useful to know what amount of time you should spend on every section of your exam.
  4. If you get a challenging question, don't sit there and panic. Take a moment to consider it, mark it, and move on to the next question.
  5. Don't forget to take deep breaths while writing the paper. This helps reduce anxiety and nervousness.
