Three parameters are important for superconductor

(1) operating temeprature

(2) Critical current density

(3) Critical magnetic field

At present operating temperature or critical temperature is very low .
Critical temperature of Niobium-Titanium alloy superconductor is around 9 K.

Critical current density of Niobium-Titanium alloy superconductor wirking at 9K temperature

is 1000 A/mm2 where as current density in  copper working at room temperature  is 5 A/mm2

High temperature superconductors made up of Copper oxides with impurities of ceramic materials like
Yttrium , Lanthanum , strontium etc are showing superconducting behaviour upto 100 K temperature but
their critical current is lower than copper.

Hence if we get superconductor working at room temperature and
critical current density greater than copper by two to three orders , then high current devices like
electromagnets used for medical application will become compact .

Even if the superconductor is discovered with high critical temeprature and critical current, it will be used
in high current applications like electromagnet due to cost .

For domestic lighting and low current applications , copper wire will be used
