why in magnesium nitrate ² is ahead of NO³ why not ahead of Mg

Dear Student,
In Mg(NO3)2,
An atom of magneisum has valecy 2 as it is a group 2 element and ready to donate two electrons easily to have stable noble gas electronic configuration.
An anion (NO3) has one negative charge (−1) that is 1 valency.
Hence, one magnesium cation (Mg2+) combines with two nitrate anions [2(NO31−)].
Therefore, the formula of magnesium nitrate (using criss-cross method of writing formulae), is Mg(NO3)2.
