Expert Answer
James Mill was a Scottish economist and a political philosopher who founded the school of classical economics along with David Ricardo. In India, he is remembered for publishing 'A History of British India' in three volumes. He divided the Indian history into three periods—Hindu, Muslim and British. He forwarded the viewpoint that all Asian societies were at a lower level of civilisation than Europe. He believed that before the advent of the British, India was ruled by the Hindu and the Muslim rulers and the society during this time period did not see any kind of development.
