Who tells that atom is smallest unit of life

Atom is the smallest unit of matter. Democritus was the first philosopher who was the first person to use the term atom. He said if you take matter and you continue to divide it you will eventually reach at a point where you could not divide it anymore this fundamental unit is known Atom. According to NCERT and Indian theory textbooks, Indian philosopher Kanad was the first person who gave an idea of the atom.
