The liver breaks down excess amino acids, which are produced as a result of break down of the proteins, into urea. The hepatic vein, which leaves the liver, then carries this urea out of the liver.
The hepatic portal veins have the greatest blood glucose levels shortly following a meal until that sugar is diffused throughout systemic circulation post-hepatically.
Thus, it is the hepatic portal vein which contains the highest concentration of amino acids and glucose soon after a meal.
