what is the exact unit of electric field intensity?

Expert Answer:

NC-1 and Vm-1 , both are the units of electric field intensity.

When electric is measured as gradient of electric potential ( E = - dV / dR );

we write the unit as Vm-1 ; otherwise when we express electric field in terms of charge and the distance from the charge ( E = 9 x 109 q/ r) , we write the unit as NC-1 .
