Expert Answer
Alluvial soils of the Ganga plains is formed due to the deposition of alluvium brought down by the rivers from the Himalayan region. These are light in colour. The alluvial soil found in the Godavari valley is formed because of the deposition of alluvium brought mainly from the Deccan trap region which is volcanic in origin. The alluvium soil found here is dark in colour.
