What is the basic principle of Ohm's law?

Ohm's law states  that the electric current I flowing through a metallic wire is directly proportional to the
potential difference V, across its ends provided its temperature remains the same.
 
Current I begin mathsize 14px style proportional to end style V   , i.e.  V / I = constant  = R    or V = I×R
 
R is resistance of given metallic wire
