Expert Answer:
Dear student,
Natural selection is the process resulting in the evolution of organisms best adapted to the environment. This process allow the advantageous heritable traits (which help an organism to survive and successfully reproduce) to become more common in a population over successive generations. Such traits tend to be passed on to succeeding generations and become more frequent in a population, whereas other less favourable traits tend to become eliminated. Natural selection is a key mechanism of evolution.
