answered-by-expert Expert Answer

Mass such as that due to giant stars, planets and so on, causes the spacetime fabric to curve, the curvature of the spacetime fabric is the gravity. So when light passes through this curvature it bends, just like when it passes from medium into another.

The curvature of spacetime due to presence of mass causes the bending of light just as if due to a lens.

That's why it's called gravitational lensing.
