CBSE Class 6 Answered
WE SAY THAT NORTH ATTRACTS TO SOUTH, BUT A FREELY SUSPENDED BAR MAGNET POINTS IN THE NORTH- SOUTH DIRECTION. WHY?

The core of earth behaves like magnet. The earth's magnetic south pole is present at the geographic north pole while the earth's magnetic north pole is at the geographic south pole. Thus, when the bar magnet is suspended freely from a rigid support, the north pole of bar magnet gets attracted to the earth's magnetic south pole and south pole of bar magnet is attracted to the earth's magnetic north pole. Thus, the freely suspended magnet points in geographic north-south direction.
