The sum of two consecutive even numbers is 42. Find the numbers.

Expert Answer
Let the two consecutive numbers be x+2 and x+4.
According to the question, we have
(x+2) + (x+4) = 42
2x + 6 = 42
2x = 36
i.e. x = 18
So, the two numbers are 20 and 22.
