Symbol of sodium is written as 'Na' and not as 'S'.why ??

There are many elements in the periodic table whose name starts from the letter 'S'.
For example: Scandium, Silicon, Sulphur, Strontium etc.
Hence, the symbols of some elements are derived from their Latin, German or Greek names.
Thus, symbol for sodium is 'Na' which is derived from its Latin name 'Natrium'.
