(1) Zinc reacts with hot and conc. sodium hydroxide to form sodium zincate with the liberation of hydrogen.

Zn  +  2NaOH  →    Na2ZnO2  +  H2

                        Sodium zincate

(2) Sodium metal on reaction with acetic acid gives sodium acetate and hydrogen gas.

 

2CH3COOH + 2Na → 2CH3COONa + H2

This reaction is slow.
