Expert Answer
Let 2p = a, q = ak, 2r = ak2 where k is the common ratio.
It is given that 2p, q, 2r in GP
Hence, q2 = 4pr
px2 + qx + r = 0
α2 + 4α - 4 = -q/p = 1 - 2k
α2 (4α - 4) = r/p = k2
4α2 (α - 1) = k2
4α2 (α - 1) = [(α2 + 4α - 4)/-2]2
Solving this we get α = 2
Hence, the roots of the equation are 4, 4.
Quadratic equation x2 - 4x + 16 = 0
p/1 = q/-8 = r/16 = k
Find the value of 2p + 4q + 7r
