Expert Answer:
if we slide a box by pushing it on usual floor, it will go and stop after a little distance.
Now if we do it on a polished smooth floor it will move even larger distance that earlier one for the same force.
Now if we do it on an ice floor or an oiled floor, it will move even greater distance.
Thus we can see that the tendency of an object moving is to move untill some force (in this case frictional force) stops it.
