Photorespiration is a wasteful process as it consumes ATP and NADPH. The enzyme Rubisco oxygenates RuBP, wasting some of the energy produced by photosynthesis. But respiration undergo glycolysis, followed by the anaerobic process of fermentation to make ATP.
