The process of gaseous exchange takes place in the stomata. The guard cells regulate the opening and closing of stomata. Under the given conditions, the leaves pick up radioactive CO2 and the maximum radioactivity is therefore associated with the guard cells of the leaves as they are actively involved in the exchange of gases in plants.
