Given Network of resitors is shown in fig.(a) . Let R be the equivalenet resistance across terminals A and B.
Let us break the network at points C and D as shown in fig(b) . Since the network consists of infinite loops ,
right side network shown in fig(b) is equivalent to the given network of fig(a) .
Hence Resistance across terminals C and D is also R
Simplified circuit of given network of resistors is given in fig.(c) by replacing equivalent resistance R
for the right side network of fig(b).
Hence we get equivalent resistance R across terminals A and B as
R = [ 2 + ( 8 || R ) + 2 ] Ω
R= { [ 8 R / (8+R) ] + 4 } Ω
Above expression becomes a quadratic expression as follows
R2 - 4 R - 32 = 0
Acceptable solution to above quadratic equation is R = 8 Ω
Hence equivalent resistance R of given network is given as , R = 8 Ω
