Expert Answer

Using sections formula we can obtain the coordinates of point P,

as (-1+9k/(k+1), (3+8k)/(k+1)) = (Xp, Yp)

But since point P lies on the line X-Y+2 = 0 .

Xp - Yp + 2 = 0

[(-1+9k) - (3+8k)]/(k+1) = -2

-4 + k = -2k - 2

k = 2/3
