Question: Fresh grapes contain 85% water, whereas dry grapes contain 20% water. How many kgs of dry grapes can be obtained from 64 kg of fresh grapes?
Solution:
Fresh grapes contain 85% of water, so it contains 15% of grapes pulp.
1 kg of fresh grapes contain 850 gms of water and 150 gms of pulp.
64 kg of fresh grapes contains 85% water and 15% pulp.
Quantity of pulp in 64 kg of fresh grapes = 15% of 64 kg = 15/100 x 64 = 3/20 x 64 = 9.6 kg
Dry grapes contain 20% water, which means it contains 80% of pulp.
Let 'p' kgs of dry grapes can be obtained from 64 kgs of fresh grapes.
Therefore, 80% of p = 9.6
(80/100) x p = 9.6
p = 12
Hence, 12 kgs of dry grapes can be obtained from 64 kgs of fresh grapes
