There are many ways of making resistors

1. Carbon composition resistor is made of resistive carbon packed into a ceramic cylinder

2. Carbon film resistor has a conductive carbon film wrapped around a carbon.

3. A wire wound resistor is made with a metal wire wrapped around clay or plastic.

A resistor is then coated with paint or enamel or covered with moulded plastic to protect it.Because resistors are often too small to be written on, a standardized color-coding system is used to identify them.
