Please answer this: Give reasons for the following: (a) Carboxylic carbon is less electrophilic than Carbonyl carbon of aldehydes and ketones. (b) Propanal is more reactive than Propanone towards addition of HCN.

(a) Carboxylic carbon is less electrophilic than the carbonyl carbon as the presence of two electronegative oxygen atoms.
 
(b) The presence of a partially positive α carbon in propanal compared to the fully substituted α carbon in propanone makes it more reactive towards addition of HCN.
