In charging by induction, when we connect an earthing (or grounding) wire, electrons flow from earth to the metallic sphere, but not vice versa - i.e. electrons dont flow from the metallic sphere to the ground. Why?

similrly in case the glass rod charged negatively then at the rare end of the metal sphere negative charge will be accumulated and then electrons will flow from the ground to sphere.
