i am not really clear with the problems of h.c.f and l.c.m .i don't know where to use what ....

HCF gives to the common divisior of a multiple numbers. So, if you need to find a number which divides all of the given numbers, then you need to use HCF. 
 
However, LCM is used to compute a common multiple of many numbers. Hence, when you need to find a common number which can be divided by all of the given numbers, then you need to compute LCM.
