Expert Answer:
Acids and bases react with each other to form salt and water.
For Example: HCl + NaOH =NaCl +H2O
This explains that when acid reacts with litmus it turns blue litmus red and with base it turns red litmus blue .
In case of salt there is no change in litmus.
