how could we measure density of liquids

Expert Answer

If the mass and the volume of the liquid ia known then the density of liquid can be determined using formula,

Density, ρ = mass/volume

SI unit of density is kg/m3

It can also be determined if the relative density of the liquid is known.

R e l a t i v e space d e n s i t y space o f space s u b s tan c e divided by l i q u i d space equals space fraction numerator D e n s i t y space o f space l i q u i d divided by s u b s tan c e over denominator D e n s i t y space o f space w a t e r space a t space 4 degree C end fraction

In Experimental way, density of liquid can be determined using following steps: -

1. Measure the mass of density bottle using physical balance. Let that mass be M1.
2. Fill the density bottle upto the volume mark with the liquid whose density is to be determined.
3. Measure the mass of liquid + density bottle with physical balance. Let it be M2.
4. Thus, density of liquid can be calculated using below formula,
density of liquid = Mass/Volume = (M2-M1) / V
