Given:
Molality = 5.2 m
5.2 m solution means 5.2 moles in 1 kg of solvent.
So, no of moles of water =
![fraction numerator Wt space of space water over denominator Molecular space wt space of space water end fraction
fraction numerator 1000 space gm over denominator 18 end fraction](https://images.topperlearning.com/topper/tinymce/cache/29d314c8ec3ca64526b20a05aecd6878.png)
= 55.55 mol
We know,
Mole fraction =
![fraction numerator No. space of space moles space of space methanol over denominator No. space of space moles space of space methanol plus No. space of space moles space of space water end fraction
equals fraction numerator 5.2 over denominator 5.2 plus 55.55 end fraction
equals space 0.085](https://images.topperlearning.com/topper/tinymce/cache/c0f1b367099d52e0121c9c2aa8b18c41.png)
Mole fraction of methanol is 0.085
