Heating effect of electric current is utilized in electrcial (incandescent) bulbs. When electric current is passed through the tungsten filament in the bulb, it becomes white hot and glows. Due to this light is emmited.
CFL (Compact Flouroscent Lamps) consist of a unit of electronic circuit and a flouroscent tube filled with mercury vapour. High frequency electricty is supplied between the electrodes of the tube with the help of the elctronic circuit. Due to this the filament attached with the cathode heats up and electrons are emitted. The fast moving electrons collide with the atoms of mercury vapour filled in the tube and emit invisible ultraviolet rays. The fluorescent coating inside the tube converts the ultraviolet rays and emits visible light. Thus, the tube glows.

Benefits of CFL bulbs:
  1. Save's energy.
  2. It emits more intense light.
  3. Majority of energy used in converted into light energy
  4. Lifespan of fluorescent lamps is about 5 times than that of the incandescent lamps.
