Heat dissipated in circuit is directly proportional to square of current and resistance. 
According to Joule's law of heating, 
H =I2Rt ...(1)
If current is increased to two times, 
Heat dissipated H' = (2I)2 Rt = 4I2Rt ...(2) 
 
Thus, 
percentage change in amount of heat dissipated will be, 
 
 percent sign space c h a n g e space i n space h e a t space d i s s i p a t e d space equals space open parentheses fraction numerator H apostrophe minus H over denominator H end fraction close parentheses cross times 100 equals open parentheses fraction numerator 4 I squared R t space minus space I squared R t over denominator I squared R t end fraction close parentheses cross times 100 equals fraction numerator 3 left parenthesis I squared R t right parenthesis over denominator left parenthesis I squared R t right parenthesis end fraction cross times 100 equals 3 cross times 100 space equals 300  
 
Correct option -> b) 300%

Two wires of copper have the same length but cross-sectional area in the ratio of 3:1. The resistance of the thicker wire is 12 ohm. (a) Calculate the resistance of the thinner wire. (b) Find the equivalent resistance of both these wires, when they are connected (1) in series (ii) parallel (c) If both the wires are connected in parallel to a battery of 24 volt, then find out the ratio of heat produced in the thicker wire to the thinner wire identify the wire if both of them are connected to the same source for the same time duration.
