Does the transfer of energy takes place when you push a huge rock with all your might and fail to move it ? Where is the energy you spend going ?

Expert Answer:

no
work is done only when some motion is there in the direction of force applied
however at molecular level there would be a tranfer of energy which can be stated as resulting in deformation of that rock
