Does the dna of the sperm and egg join together and then replicated?If not,then what happens? In Biology

When sperm (haploid) and ovum (haploid) fuses during fertilisation, zygote (diploid) is formed. Since their chromosomes fuse, the zygote formed is a diploid cell. It is only during the division of the  zygote,  that the chromosomes are also replicated.
