Let x be the separation.
At equilibrium, the forces are,
Vertical component of Tension = Weight of a ball
Tcosθ = mg .... where θ is the angle made thread with vertical.
Horizontal componenet of Tension = Electrostatic force of repulsion
Tsinθ = kq2/x2
Divivde the second equation by first,
tanθ = kq2/x2
sinθ = kq2/x2 ....... since θ is very small.
(x/2)L = kq2/(mgx2)
x = (2Lkq2/mg)1/3
