Calculate the work required to be done to stop a car of 1500 kg moving at a velocity of 60 km hour

Work done to stop the moving object equals to its kinetic energy .

speed v of the car = 60 km/hr = 60 × ( 5/18 ) m/s = 16.67 m/s

Let m = 1500 kg is mass of the car .

Kinetic energy = ( 1/2  ) m v2 = 0.5 × 1500 × 16.67 × 16.67 J = 2.084 × 105 J ≈ 208 kJ

Work done to stop the car when it is moving at a speed 60 km/hr = 208 kJ
