ANOBJECT OF MASS 40KG IS RAISED AT A HEIGHT OF 5M ABOVE THE GROUND . WHATIS ITS POTENTIAL ENERGY ? IF THE OBJECT IS ALLOWED TO FALL FIND ITS KINETIC ENERGY WHEN IT IS HALF WAY DOWN?

Potential energy=mgh
 
P E equals 40 cross times 10 cross times 5 equals 2000 J
Total energy =Potential energy +Kinetic energy
At the top
Total energy=Potential energy (KE=0)
 
At height h/2
PE = mgh/2
 
But we know that according to work energy theorem total Energy will remain constant
 
TE=PE+KE
mgh=mgh/2+KE
KE=mgh/2
KE=2000/2=1000J
