CBSE Class 10 Answered
An object 2 cm in size is placed 30 cm in front of a convex mirror of focal length 15 cm. Find the nature, position and the size of the image formed. Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of the image in this case.

We have mirror equation as given below
(1/v) + (1/u) = 1/f
where v is mirror-to-image distance , u is mirror-to-object distance and f is focal length.
u = - 30 cm ( Cartesian sign convention is followed ) and f = 15 cm
hence we get
1/v = (1/15) + (1/30) = 1/10
hence image is formed 10 cm behind mirror
Magnification m = - (v/u) = - [ 10 / (-30) ] = 1/3
image is virtual , diminished and erect
size of image = 2 × (1/3) = 2/3 cm
Ray diagram is given below
