 Element Mass ratio Atomic mass Relative Number of atoms Simplest ratio C 9 12 9/12 = 0.75 0.75X4=3 H 1 1 1/1=1 1X4=4 N 3.5 3.5 3.5/14=0.25 0.25X4=1

Empirical ratio = C3H4N

Empirical formula mass = (3x12)+(4x1)+14= 54

n= Molecular mass               = 108 = 2

Empirical formula mass         54

Molecular formula = (empirical formula)= (C3H4N)2  = C6H8N2
