Expert Answer

2x - 3y = 13 ... (i)

3x + 5y = 16 ... (ii)

Make one of the (x or y) coefficients equal.

Multiplying (i) 5 and (ii) by 3, we get

10x - 15y = 65 ... (iii)

9x + 15y = 48 ... (iv)

Adding the two equations, we get

19x = 113

x = 113/19

Substituting in (i), we get

y = -7/19
