CBSE Class 10 Answered
1.what will be the affect on focal length of lens if the lens is half immersed in water
2.what will happen if the light passes through hollow prism
3.more is the refractive index, more will be the shift and less will be apparent depth..why it is so

when a convex lens is immersed in water its focal length increases.
When a convex lens is immersed half as shown in figure, upper half part of lens has less focal length and
lower half part of the lens has greater focal length. Hence for a given object , there will be two images
----------------------
When a white light passes through the hollow prism, it escapes out as it entered because no refraction takes place.
---------------------------
when object is viewed normally through a refracting medium like glass or water, there is a normal shift of viewed object towards observer.
we have , refractive index
or

hence if refractive index increases, apparent depth decreases or shift of viewed object increases
