1.Tollen’s reagent is prepared by mixing silver nitrate with ammonium hydroxide.

   Tollen’s reagent oxidizes aldehydes to corresponding acids and in the process gets reduced to Tollen’s metallic silver.

   Carboxylic acid on treatment with NaHCO3 gives effervescence of carbon dioxide.

2.Ketones do not give Tollen’s and Fehling’s test.
