Why do plants need nitrogen?

- Nitrogen is the primary component found in many structures and metabolic structures of plants.
- It is also a critical ingredient in chlorophyll which facilitates photosynthesis.
- It is essential in producing proteins and genetic material.
- Nitrogen is one of the six macronutrients required for plants and fertilisers are used to ensure their availability.
- Deficiency of nitrogen in plants results in poor growth, small size, yellow, red or dull leaves, small sized fruits, tasteless fruits, seed germination, root structure etc.
